The United Kingdom has made the decision to deploy additional troops to Kosovo in support of NATO\u2019s peacekeeping mission, KFOR. This move comes in response to a recent deadly attack on Kosovo Police forces in the northern region of the country.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, the British Ministry of Defense announced its plan to send approximately 200 additional troops to augment its existing contingent in Kosovo, which currently consists of 400 British soldiers.<\/p>\n
This decision was made following a specific request from American General Chris Cavoli, the Supreme Allied Commander for Europe.<\/p>\n
NATO\u2019s choice to bolster its peacekeeping presence in Kosovo comes one week after an armed Serbian group attacked the Kosovo Police in the village of Banjska, located within the municipality of Zvecan, resulting in the tragic death of officer Afrim Bunjaku.<\/p>\n
After the initial ambush of a police patrol, the Serbian assailants sought refuge in the village\u2019s monastery, where they continued their confrontation with the police, ultimately resulting in the deaths of three of the attackers.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, Kosovo Police discovered and seized a significant cache of weapons in Banjska and the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n
Kosovo\u2019s Interior Minister Xhelal Sve\u00e7la revealed on Sunday that his country had gathered evidence indicating Serbia\u2019s attempt to annex the northern part of Kosovo and the prolonged preparation of the attackers within Serbian military bases located within Serbia itself.<\/p>\n
He stated that over 90 individuals had participated in the attack against the Kosovo Police during a press conference in south Mitrovica.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Miljan Radoji\u010di\u0107 took responsibility for the attack and resigned from his position as the deputy leader of the Serb List, the largest political party representing Serbs in Kosovo, which enjoys support from the Serbian Government.<\/p>\n
Despite Kosovo\u2019s allegations, Serbia has vehemently denied any involvement in the attack, which has been officially classified as an act of terrorism by Kosovar authorities.<\/p>\n
In response to international pressure, Serbia also denied relocating its military closer to the border with Kosovo, as both the United States and the European Union, alongside Kosovar authorities, called for the withdrawal of Serbian military forces from the border region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
