Thousands of Montenegrin citizens, donning their national and state emblems, staged a protest on Monday evening against the newly elected Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament, Andrija Mandi\u0107.<\/p>\n
Mandi\u0107 secured his position as the Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament on Monday, with the support of 49 out of the 81 deputies.<\/p>\n
The demonstration, which took place in front of the Parliament building in Podgorica, also saw participation from various opposition parties and the Free Citizens\u2019 Forum \u201cLu\u010da\u201d. They collectively called for Mandi\u0107\u2019s rejection as the Montenegrin Parliament\u2019s Speaker.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the protesters appealed to the incoming Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spaji\u0107, to postpone the scheduled population census set for November 1.<\/p>\n
Chants echoed through the crowd, including slogans such as \u201cNo to the Chetnik Government\u201d, \u201cDown with Fascism\u201d, and \u201cMandi\u0107, Step Down\u201d.<\/p>\n
Members from the \u201cLu\u010da\u201d organization voiced their concerns, stating, \u201cWe stand before the house, which, symbolically, morally, and politically, becomes a stain on today\u2019s elections\u201d.<\/p>\n
Andrija Mandi\u0107\u2019s appointment as Speaker also conferred upon him membership in the highest state security and defense body.<\/p>\n
Mandi\u0107 leads the New Serb Democracy, a party that is part of the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian Democratic Front coalition, recently rebranded as the Coalition for Montenegro\u2019s Future.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s foreign policy priorities involve advocating for the lifting of sanctions against Russia and withdrawing Montenegro\u2019s recognition of Kosovo\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n
They are also staunchly against Montenegro\u2019s NATO membership.<\/p>\n
On the regional front, Mandi\u0107 maintains remarkably close ties with Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 and Milorad Dodik, the President of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
He has also been known to deny the genocide in Srebrenica, where Bosnian Serb forces tragically killed over 8,000 Muslim men and boys during the 1990s conflict.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Mandi\u0107 is closely associated with the Chetnik movement\u2019s ideology, which collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War II.<\/p>\n
