Albanians spend more on food compared to Europe. According to INSTAT and Eurostat data for 2022, an Albanian family spent 39.7% of its budget on food.<\/p>\n
In comparison, Europe spent an average of 13.6% of the total budget on food, almost three times less than Albania.<\/p>\n
Although with a slight decrease, compared to a year ago, where the budget for food and drinks was 41.3%, Eurostat data show that the expenses of a family in Albania for food are the highest in Europe.<\/p>\n
This is an indirect indicator of poverty, as expenditure on food and drink is vital.<\/p>\n
In the region, Albania ranks first, followed by Bosnia-Herzegovina and North Macedonia 32.2%, then it is followed by Montenegro and Serbia, which spend a quarter of the family budget on food.<\/p>\n
Spending a significant part of the monthly income on food leaves less space for other activities such as entertainment and various cultural activities, which occupy 2.7% of the budget for Albanian families, against 8.4% in European families.<\/p>\n
