The appeal of the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has upheld the measure of “prison arrest” for the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri.<\/p>\n

This was the 12th time that for Fredi Beleri was denied security relief.<\/p>\n

It is also learned that the session was postponed by an hour, as Beleri’s lawyers were absent.<\/p>\n

Beleri had requested the exclusion from the case of the GJKKO Appeal judge, Daniela Shirka.<\/p>\n

GJKKO Appeal Notice:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, with a monocratic panel composed of judge Daniela Shirka, today, 26.01.2024, announced the decision on criminal case no. 32 act, date 19.01.2024 registration, registered on the complaint of the complainant Dh.A.B., with object: “Appeal against decision no. 522, dated 28.12.2023, of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, regarding: The revocation or replacement of the personal insurance measure “Arrest in prison” determined by decision no. 205, dated 13.05.2023 of the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, Vlor\u00eb, continued with decision no. 46 dated 22.05.2023 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime”, and decided:<\/p>\n

Approval of decision no. 522, dated 28.12.2023 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime.<\/p>\n

Beleri has been in prison since May 12 this year after he was arrested for buying votes on the eve of the May 14 local elections.<\/p>\n

The prosecution accuses the winner of the elections in Himara of giving money to 8 citizens to vote in his favor during the local elections.<\/p>\n

Keeping him in prison has brought a clash with the official Athens, which accuses the Albanian government of politically keeping Fredi Beleri in a cell to prevent him from being sworn in as mayor.<\/p>\n
