However, this has not happened in Albania. Although the country has had among the highest economic growth rates in the region, the satisfaction with life has not changed. In fact, the satisfaction with life is lower than in 2016.<\/p>\n
This data was revealed by the latest Transition Report of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), published in November, but presented this Monday by the Bank of Albania and the EBRD.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe results of satisfaction have increased over time in most economies. A region that has made considerable progress since 2016 is Southeast Europe (which includes both (i) EU member states (EU), Bulgaria and Romania, and (ii) the Western Balkans), with almost all countries experiencing significant increases in satisfaction (the only exception is Albania, where this result has remained more or less unchanged). Meanwhile, the percentage of satisfied people in Greece has doubled since 2016, reflecting dramatic improvements in the country\u2019s economic situation over the past six or seven years,\u201d the report says.<\/p>\n
According to the chart accompanying the report, the level of satisfaction with life among Albanians is the same as in 2016, while it is also lower than in 2006, when the measurement of this index began.<\/p>\n
Moreover, in 2006, Albania was one of the countries with the highest satisfaction with living standards in the EBRD report. Whereas in 2022, the country ranks among the last in the EBRD report, along with North Macedonia, Hungary, Turkey, and Lithuania. However, in North Macedonia, for example, the satisfaction with living standards is at its historical highest in 2022, when in 2006 it was among the lowest in the region.<\/p>\n
Kosovo is one of the most optimistic states in the EBRD report, the third after Slovenia and Estonia among the European states, with a significant increase compared to previous reports. After Kosovo citizens, ranks Serbia, followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
According to the EBRD report, the average increase in life satisfaction in the region \u201clikely reflects income growth, favorable developments in labor markets (including a shift to more satisfactory and higher-skilled jobs), and improvements in health.<\/p>\n
In particular, people\u2019s assessments of their health have improved significantly over time, with such assessments including not only physical aspects but also mental health. Survey results show that mental concern is associated with lower satisfaction and tends to be more widespread in poorer countries and among financially insecure individuals\u201d.<\/p>\n
The increase in happiness over time has been broad and not focused on certain groups. In all age groups, life satisfaction levels are, on average, significantly higher than in 2006, as well as higher than in 2010 and 2016.<\/p>\n
For both genders, happiness declines steadily with age but improves again in later years. Thus, the data corresponds to the U-shaped model found in most literature on happiness, although the turning point comes slightly later than usual in the EBRD regions. Levels of life satisfaction have also increased steadily in both urban and rural areas.<\/p>\n
