Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 held an urgent meeting with several ministers of the Serbian Government on Tuesday evening regarding the decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo to only use the euro currency in Kosovo for cash transactions, reported Tanjug.<\/p>\n
The United States, the European Union, and the QUINT states have called on Kosovo to postpone the implementation of the Central Bank regulation, which is scheduled to come into force on February 1.<\/p>\n
Serbs in Kosovo have opposed this decision, saying that it will prevent them from using the Serbian dinar for cash payments.<\/p>\n
At the meeting held at the Serbian Presidency, Vu\u010di\u0107 and Serbian ministers discussed further steps that Belgrade will take regarding the decision of the Central Bank.<\/p>\n
On January 29, during a meeting in Belgrade with the EU Special Representative for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Laj\u010d\u00e1k, Vu\u010di\u0107 requested the annulment of the Central Bank\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
The Government of Kosovo has argued that the Central Bank\u2019s decision is in line with the Constitution of Kosovo, but the United States and other QUINT countries \u2013 Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France \u2013 have said that this decision \u201craises concerns regarding its particular impact on Serb-majority communities\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Serb List \u2013 the main party of Serbs in Kosovo, which enjoys Serbia\u2019s support \u2013 has said that the Central Bank\u2019s decision jeopardizes the survival of Serbs in Kosovo.<\/p>\n
In Kosovo, in all Serbian-majority settlements, the population uses the Serbian dinar for payments, and those working in Serbian institutions in Kosovo also receive their salaries in dinars.<\/p>\n
Pensions are also paid in dinars, according to the Serbian system, as well as child allowances and social benefits.<\/p>\n
