Next year, the Global Learning Assessment PISA 2025 will take place, which will shift the focus of testing from mathematics and reading to scientific knowledge, learning in the digital world, and introduce a new assessment for foreign languages.<\/p>\n
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which has been working to build policies for a better life for more than two decades, develops a global test to assess the average knowledge of 15-year-old students in around 80 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n
Albania has been part of this test since 2000 and underwent the latest assessment in 2022. The results were poor, making it two decades of decline. Albanian students scored 368 points in mathematics, 69 points less than in the 2018 test and 21 points less than in 2012. In literacy, they scored 358 points, 47 points less than in 2018 and 35 points less than in 2012.<\/p>\n
OECD has announced the framework for the PISA 2025 test, which will include an innovative domain, learning in the digital world, aiming to measure students\u2019 ability to engage in self-regulated learning during the use of digital tools, while PISA 2022 primarily focused on testing knowledge in mathematics.<\/p>\n
The PISA 2025 assessment will measure how well countries are preparing their students with science and how science produces reliable knowledge. This is crucial for citizens who need to make informed personal decisions about science-related phenomena, such as health and the environment, to engage in actions within their families, local communities, and broader society.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is particularly important in the 21st<\/sup> century when humanity faces an uncertain future, an era in which human impact is significantly changing Earth\u2019s systems,\u201d OECD states regarding PISA 2025.<\/p>\n Previous PISA tests for science assessment have developed a concept of \u201cscientific literacy\u201d, while PISA 2025 moves into a broader framework. The document\u2019s focus is now on overall outcomes of scientific education to align the scientific framework with mathematics and reading.<\/p>\n Science and its connection to the environment will be the focus of the 2025 test, but meanwhile, Albania risks further worsening its ranking as the country is weak in digital education and scientific research.<\/p>\n In Albania, digital learning is completely absent in pre-university education.
