A survey conducted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), published on Wednesday, highlights that around 60 percent of citizens in Kosovo believe that the agreement for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia will positively impact their lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the two responses \u2018I completely believe it will have an impact\u2019 and \u2018I believe it will have an impact\u2019, a total of 60.8 percent is gathered, whereas this number was 58 percent in April 2023, so we see a slight positive increase in citizens’ perception of how they will be affected by this agreement,\u201d said Alisa Hasani, project manager.<\/p>\n
She emphasized that about 75 percent of respondents believe that this agreement will contribute to long-term peace in Kosovo.<\/p>\n
These data are part of the survey named \u201cPublic Pulse\u201d, which is conducted with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with 1,307 citizens in all municipalities of Kosovo.<\/p>\n
Survey data show that citizens from the Serbian community in Kosovo have lower expectations from this agreement, as only about 32 percent of them believe it will have any impact on their lives.<\/p>\n
According to the report, about 42 percent of respondents expressed satisfaction with the work of Kosovo\u2019s central institutions, while nearly 24 percent of them expressed satisfaction with Kosovo\u2019s political direction. A lower number of respondents were willing to protest for political reasons in this report compared to that of April 2023.<\/p>\n
The United Nations Development Programme survey, which aims to reflect citizens\u2019 opinions on the situation in the country, ranks poverty, unemployment, and prices for essential items as the three main issues affecting their well-being.<\/p>\n
The Permanent Representative of this program in Kosovo, Nino Queiros, said that this is the most concerning part for them in this survey.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact that 25 percent of citizens are very concerned about poverty and the fact that the second concern after it is unemployment worries me from a developmental perspective because if you are concerned about poverty but think you have a chance to get employed in some way, you have an outlet, but if you are concerned about poverty and also worry about unemployment, then this is a double negative impact on the perception of the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In the United Nations Development Programme survey, there is talk of a slight decline in citizens\u2019 perception of their security. Overall, about 79 percent of citizens say they feel safe, compared to about 83 percent, as this number was in the previous survey. Data broken down by ethnicity show that a higher percentage of Kosovo Albanians and members of other communities in Kosovo have reported feeling safe compared to Kosovo Serbs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
