The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo has announced that a girl, an Albanian from Kosovo, is among the injured in the attack that took place in the morning at a school in Finland.<\/p>\n
The Ministry has said through a post on Facebook that the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Stockholm is in constant contact with the girl’s family members.<\/p>\n
As a result of the attack on the Viertola school in the city of Vanta in Finland, one child died and two others were seriously injured.<\/p>\n
According to police officials, the three victims are 12 years old, just like the suspect, who initially ran away, but was then detained by the authorities.<\/p>\n
Parents have told Finnish media that the shooting took place in a classroom at Viertola School in Vantaa, north of the capital Helsinki.<\/p>\n
The police said they reached the school within nine minutes.<\/p>\n
The school has about 800 students from grades one to nine, as well as a staff of 90 people, according to local authorities.<\/p>\n
Finland has faced such incidents in the past as well.<\/p>\n
In 2007, Pekka-Eric Auvinen killed seven students, the school nurse, the principal and himself with a handgun at Jokela High School, near Helsinki.<\/p>\n
A year later, in 2008, Matti Saari, another student, shot at a vocational school in northwestern Finland. He killed nine students, a member of the school staff and then himself.<\/p>\n
Finland has tightened the law on gun ownership in 2010. It has also changed the legal age for gun ownership, from 18 to 20 years old.<\/p>\n
