The assets of all Post Savings Bank customers are safe and will not be damaged after the police action of the Kosovar authorities in the north of Kosovo, the Serbian bank said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
In a press release, the bank said that, despite the “temporary suspension” of the operation of branches in the north of Kosovo, customers can perform all banking services in the nearest branches, which are located at the border crossings with Kosovo: Jarinj\u00eb, B\u00ebrnjak, Merdare and Kon\u00e7ul.<\/p>\n
Also, all bank employees of the Post Savings Bank in the north of Kosovo remain employed, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n
Serbia set up makeshift branches of this bank, intended for Serbs from Kosovo, near four border points last month.<\/p>\n
Authorities in Kosovo on Monday conducted a police operation against Serbian financial institutions in northern Kosovo, which resulted in the closure of six facilities of the Postal Savings Bank and the People’s Bank of Serbia in four municipalities with a Serbian majority.<\/p>\n
During the action, which the Kosovo authorities said was about establishing “order and legality”, various evidence, including money, were confiscated.<\/p>\n
The Kosovo police, who attached photos of the confiscated money, said that “about 1,600,000 euros, about 74,700,000 Serbian dinars, about 19,500 francs, about 13,800 US dollars, about 40 Australian dollars” were found.<\/p>\n
High officials in Serbia strongly condemned the police action in the north, calling it “illegal”.<\/p>\n
The US State Department (Dash) said it is disappointed that the Kosovo Police took action in the financial offices in the north of Kosovo.<\/p>\n
