Albania is expected to lose 25 percent of its population by 2050, as policies of the last 30 years have not been able to stop migration and the reduction of fertility.<\/p>\n

Other eastern European countries are experiencing a similar trend as they suffer abandonment of the country and the aging of the population.<\/p>\n

Albania’s population is shrinking faster than expected due to the decline in birth rates and migration.<\/p>\n

From 1990 onwards, the demographic curve has shrunk even greater than predictions made by national and international organizations.<\/p>\n

From 1989 to 2020, the age group of 15-29 years has decreased by 30%, as migration within this group has been at high levels, followed significantly by negative birth rates from year to year.<\/p>\n

According to Eurostat data, from 2010 to 2019, 219 thousand Albanians have applied for asylum in EU countries, 80% of whom are under 34 years old.\u00a0The reasons given by them in the polls are related to unemployment and lack of hope.<\/p>\n
