The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, traveled to Washington, to participate in the activity organized by the US Department of State for Women, Peace and Security, which is held within the framework of the NATO Summit.<\/p>\n
In the communiqu\u00e9 issued by the Presidency, it is stated that Osmani’s visit is carried out at the invitation of the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.<\/p>\n
“Kosovo’s involvement in the activity organized by Secretary Blinken, dedicated to the Agenda for Women, Peace and Security, is a strong indicator of the growing role that Kosovo is playing in the advancement of this agenda at the global level and its commitment to the principles and values \u200b\u200bsupported by NATO”, the communiqu\u00e9 states.<\/p>\n
According to her, this is the first time that Kosovo is involved in an event within the NATO Summit.<\/p>\n
The summit, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the military alliance, is held from July 9 to 11.<\/p>\n
Kosovo is not a NATO member country, but since the end of the war in 1999, it has had the alliance’s peacekeeping mission, KFOR.<\/p>\n
After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, in 2022, the authorities in Kosovo requested accelerated membership in this organization, but, considering that in its ranks there are four states that do not recognize Kosovo – Greece, Spain, Romania and Slovakia – and the decision on expansion must be taken unanimously, that request has not gone ahead, writes Radio Free Europe.<\/p>\n
Last month, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly approved the advancement of Kosovo’s status from an observer member to an associate member.<\/p>\n
