Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 said he expects to sign an agreement to buy fighter jets during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Belgrade this week.<\/p>\n

“It’s a big contract for our country and it’s not a small contract for France either,” said Vu\u010di\u0107 during an interview with the AFP agency.<\/span><\/p>\n

The agreement for the purchase of French Rafale aircraft is expected to be multibillion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Macron will be on an official visit to Serbia on August 29 and 30.<\/span><\/p>\n

This will be the second visit of the French president to Serbia in the last five years, as the two countries are strengthening their relations, especially in the field of economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

In February 2023, Vu\u010di\u0107 told reporters that the purchase of Rafale aircraft will be the largest purchase from the budget of the Serbian army, “at a value of 3 billion euros”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Military issues will be part of the talks during the visit to Serbia, Macron confirmed at a press conference on July 18 during the European Political Community Summit, which was held in the United Kingdom, writes Radio Free Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asked about the status of the contract for the sale of French aircraft to Serbia, Macron stated that he will visit Serbia in the coming weeks or months “to finalize the negotiations that are subject to technical, financial and political negotiations between the two states”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another issue that Macron and Vu\u010di\u0107 will discuss will be Kosovo. During a telephone conversation held in mid-June, Vu\u010di\u0107 told Macron that it is important that the issue of resolving disputes with Kosovo remains high on the agenda of the European Union, as he asked the French leader for support on this matter.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
