The World Health Organization recently warned of an increase in the risk of sexually transmitted diseases as well as unwanted pregnancy due to the reduced use of condoms among young people.<\/p>\n
According to a WHO report, almost a third of teenagers (30 percent) reported not using condoms or birth control pills during sex, that is, between 2014 and 2022, the percentage of sexually active youth who used a condom during sex fell from 70 to 61 percent among young men and from 63 to 57 percent among girls.<\/p>\n
Olimbi Hoxhaj, executive director of the Association of People Affected by HIV\/AIDS, said in the People show on Euronews Albania that sexually transmitted diseases are an alarm bell for society. She showed that only in the first 6 months of the year there are at least 80 cases infected with HIV\/AIDS in Albania.<\/p>\n
“Just for the first 6 months, we have 80 cases infected with HIV, while most of them also have co-infection with syphilis or papilloma virus. Meanwhile, we have had an average of 100 cases all year, they are young age groups. There are also cases where they sought prophylaxis and did not find it and came as patients. We are talking about active age groups who do not think logically,” she said.<\/p>\n
