The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, said on Monday that the international community is one-sided in relation to Kosovo and Serbia, and that it should be more defined what it wants from the two countries.<\/p>\n
Konjufca has said that he does not expect anything from the next round of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, at the level of chief negotiators, which has been announced to be held, even in terms of the requests made to Kosovo for the removal of measures against the circulation of Serbian goods.<\/p>\n
“The dialogue, in the format it has been in since 2011, had its coffin on September 24 of last year, with the terrorist attack in Banjska, because the information possessed by both the international community and our security institutions clearly shows that this large criminal group had the direct support of the Serbian state”, said Konjufca in a press conference.<\/p>\n
He said that the international community is being reserved in punishing Serbia, although, according to him, there is information that the Serbian state is behind the Banjska attack.<\/p>\n
“We are aware and this is clear that the international community is one-sided in the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, for this reason I believe that a completely new direction is needed”, said Konjufca, referring to the dialogue in Brussels, which is mediated by the European bloc.<\/p>\n
On February 24 of last year, a Serbian armed group attacked the Kosovo Police in Banjska of Zve\u00e7an, killing the Serbian sergeant, Afrim Bunjaku.<\/p>\n
In the exchange of fire, three Serbian attackers were killed.<\/p>\n
The responsibility for the attack was taken by the former vice-president of Serb List – the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo – Milan Radoicic, who is believed to be free in Serbia.<\/p>\n
Kosovo directly blames the Serbian state for organizing and carrying out the attack.<\/p>\n
Both Kosovo and Serbia are conducting investigations into the attack, but they have not presented any indictment yet.<\/p>\n
Konjufca has said that neither Kosovo nor the international factor can publish detailed data from the investigations into the attack, due to the sensitivity of the case.<\/p>\n
Konjufca has also commented on the reports that Germany’s envoy for the Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, has requested that Kosovo’s security measures against Serbian goods be lifted.<\/p>\n
The Kosovo government banned the import of goods from Serbia on June 15 last year, a day after Serbian forces arrested three Kosovo policemen.<\/p>\n
Local media in Kosovo have reported that Kosovo’s membership in the Berlin Process may be at risk if it does not take steps in this direction.<\/p>\n
The Berlin process is not a formal EU policy process towards the Western Balkans region.<\/p>\n
It is an initiative of Germany, supported by other EU countries such as Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and then also France, Italy, Poland and others, which aims to help the development of the region, mutual cooperation between them, ensure the attraction of investments and thus help those countries in their preparation for EU membership in the future.<\/p>\n
“It doesn’t seem to me that the Berlin Process can be reduced to CEFTA”, said Konjuca, calling for differences to be made between economic issues and security issues.<\/p>\n
“What Sarrazin said during his visit to Kosovo is actually a kind of modus operandi of Serbia. If you’re going to have a functional region, we know the way. The way is the equality of Kosovo with Serbia, as independent states, which participate in these regional agreements”.<\/p>\n
He has said that he does not expect the lifting of Kosovo’s measures on Serbian goods, especially not until after the general elections in Kosovo, scheduled for February next year.<\/p>\n
Kosovo has been a member of CEFTA since 2007 and is represented through the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).<\/p>\n
The Kosovar authorities now ask to be represented as a state and not through the UN mission, writes Radio Free Europe.<\/p>\n
Other CEFTA member states are Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Moldova.<\/p>\n
In 2006, these six Western Balkan countries signed agreements aimed at eliminating customs duties and other barriers to mutual trade.<\/p>\n
