The Kosovo Police said that its members continue to be trained by various local and international partners, including the United States.<\/p>\n
“At the request of the USA for participation in trainings in the USA, the Kosovo Police continuously, but also now, this week, has nominated its officials for participation in trainings in the USA”, the police announcement states.<\/p>\n
The reaction follows the reports of some media in Kosovo that the USA has temporarily suspended the training of the Special Unit of the Kosovo Police, as a “form of sanction”, after the closure of several parallel Serbian municipalities in the north of the country.<\/p>\n
Radio Free Europe sought confirmation from the American Embassy in Pristina, which said that it is “continuing to examine the case” and that “it has not made any decision at the moment”.<\/p>\n
“We refer you to our statement of August 30, where it was said: ‘The Government’s actions will affect the quality and nature of our cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its subordinate elements,’\u201d says the answer.<\/p>\n
In the statement of August 30, the American Embassy also said that the Government of Kosovo “instrumentalizes” the Police to carry out uncoordinated actions.<\/p>\n
Her reaction came on the day when the Kosovo authorities closed several institutions in the north of the country – an area inhabited by a majority of Serbs – on the grounds that they were operating illegally.<\/p>\n
Their closure caused harsh reactions from the international community, which requires Kosovo to address the issues related to the situation in the north within the dialogue for the normalization of relations with Serbia, which is mediated by the European Union.<\/p>\n
In the announcement sent to the media, the Kosovo Police said that they take “very seriously” the statements of the American Embassy in Pristina that are related to the security field and the Police institution and that “it is ready to do everything that is necessary” to maintain the partnership with the USA, writes REL.<\/p>\n
Asked about the claims of the American Embassy, \u200b\u200bthe Minister of the Interior of Kosovo, Xhelal Sve\u00e7la, said in an interview for Radio Free Europe this week that “The Police of Kosovo, like any other police in democratic countries, have authorizations for their actions and have and supervision”.<\/p>\n
“Nowhere is the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo stronger and more vigilant than in the north of Kosovo”, said Sve\u00e7la.<\/p>\n
