A recent report published by the International Labor Organization (ILO) states that the country has still a high level of informal employment with 56.7% of all workers employed under informal arrangements. This report was based on data gathered in 2019.<\/p>\n

Out of the total number of workers, 63.9% belong to the agricultural sector 12.6% to the trade sector, 7.6% to construction, 4.2% to restaurants and hotels. In the industry sector 3.2% are informal workers, transport 3% and in the services sector 1.9%.<\/p>\n

Professional activities, those of public administration, arts and entertainment are less exposed to informal employment.<\/p>\n

Recent informal employment trends in Albania as regards gender indicate that citizens working in atypical forms are mostly men, excluding the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

By the end of 2019, INSTAT reported 1.2 million people employed, of whom only 782 thousand people were reported to pay insurance from the General Directorate of Taxes.<\/p>\n

The labor force survey analyzed by the ILO shows that informal employment continues to be a worrying phenomenon for Albania, which may be further worsened by the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n
