The European Union (EU) has described Kosovo’s decision to lift the restriction on the import of goods from Serbia a day before as a “correct step” towards the unblocking of decision-making in CEFTA.<\/p>\n
Kosovo has been a member of CEFTA since 2007, but is represented through the UN mission.<\/p>\n
The government of Prime Minister Albin Kurti decided on Monday to remove the restriction on goods from Serbia at the border point in Merdare, while on Tuesday this crossing point was opened for Serbian goods.<\/p>\n
The EU has seen the decision of the Government of Kosovo as “good news” in the hope that, in this way, the way has been opened for the success of the summit of the Berlin Process, which takes place next week in Germany.<\/p>\n
Diplomatic sources in the EU said that Germany has worked to resolve the issue of that blockade, while on Monday, Germany informed other countries about the progress of talks with Kosovo and Serbia.<\/p>\n
They said that they still do not know all the details from the talks about CEFTA because, in addition to the removal of the restriction on goods from Serbia on the part of Kosovo, the modality for Kosovo’s participation and a solution with which all parties would agree must be found.<\/p>\n
