Individuals of working age who emigrate bring the country a loss of up to 15 thousand euros. Meanwhile, in total, for all annual departures, the loss reaches up to 1 billion euros.<\/p>\n
Albania loses up to 1 billion euros per year from the migration of young people. The figure comes out in the latest study of the foundation, Westminster, which calculates that for each person who runs away, the loss is about 15 thousand euros. The study takes into account the exit of 41,700 people who left in the last year, of which 37,500 were of working age. Assuming that they reached their goal and were immediately employed in the host country, the loss of gross value added amounts to 455 million euros, with a direct effect on the Gross Domestic Product.<\/p>\n
The other channel of damage is considered lost investments in education. A young person who completed his studies in 2018 costs about 6,000 euros for primary school, 9,300 euros for secondary school and 18,300 euros for higher education. If the cost of doctoral studies is also calculated, they reach 32,000 euros, and the departure of young people brings the cost of the loss from 200 to 500 million euros per year.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the benefits that the country receives from immigrants are remittances, which together with other sources, coming from abroad and reaching up to 1 billion euros per year, manage to balance the weight of the economic loss from migration.<\/p>\n
