The first 16 migrants from Italy arrived on Wednesday at the port of Shengjin with the military ship “Libra”.<\/p>\n
Sources for Euronews Albania inform that 4 of the 16 migrants will return to Italy as two of them are minors while the other 2 will leave for health reasons.<\/p>\n
The migrants, 10 of them from Bangladesh and six from Egypt, were rescued on Sunday from different migrant boats that left Libya days earlier.<\/p>\n
The Italian military ship with the first migrants left on Monday, October 14, from the island of Lampedusa in Italy.<\/p>\n
With their arrival, the implementation of the agreement between the two neighboring countries signed a year ago between the two prime ministers of Albania and Italy begins.<\/p>\n
According to the agreement reached between Edi Rama and Girogia Meloni, at least 3 thousand refugees can stay in the Gjadri camps at the same time.<\/p>\n
During their closed stay and without the right to go outside the territory defined as their place of residence, they will carry out the procedures to obtain asylum. Those who win will be transferred to reception centers in Italy, while those who are rejected will be returned to their countries of origin.<\/p>\n
All costs will be borne by the government of Rome, while that of Tirana will be involved in guaranteeing security separately outside the territory of the Gjadri camp and the reception center in the port of Shengjin.<\/p>\n
The Rama Meloni agreement has been met with numerous criticisms not only in Italy but also by international refugee rights organizations.<\/p>\n
It would cost the Italian state 160 million euros per year and is expected to last up to 5 years with the right to extend the term.<\/p>\n
