The special envoy of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, commented on last week’s meeting between the chief negotiator of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, and that of Serbia, Petar Petkovic within the dialogue mediated by the EU, saying that they have not taken steps forward, is optimistic about some progress achieved on some other key issues, which they will follow in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
He wrote that he also met the Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community to discuss energy cooperation in the Western Balkans and the importance of integration into the EU market amid the complexity of Kosovo-Serbia relations.<\/p>\n
“Also, I engaged in a fruitful discussion with the Japanese ambassador to the EU, updating on the state of play in the dialogue and exploring avenues for strengthening our ties and cooperation. I appreciate Japan’s long-term commitment to the Western Balkans aimed at supporting the region’s reform efforts. Looking ahead, I will trade my EU hat for that of a former UN General Assembly president while participating in our traditional meeting in Seoul, where we will address urgent issues currently on the UN agenda,” he wrote.<\/p>\n
