The head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, has again made a comparison between the situation in Kosovo and that in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Of course, Lavrov has repeatedly referred to the state of Kosovo and Ukraine with the term ‘territorial integrity’.<\/p>\n

The Russian diplomat, Putin’s closest man, addressed the cabinet of the Secretary General of the United Nations with some criticism and advice.<\/p>\n

He has asked this institution to “read the Charter of this organization in its entirety and not only the part that he wants to highlight in the context of the Ukrainian crisis regarding, as he says, territorial integrity and the right of nations to self-determination”, reports today Sputnik.<\/p>\n

At the International Science Fiction Symposium “Building the Future”, Lavrov recalled that the West, with the full support of the UN Secretariat, demands the “restoration of Ukraine” within the 1991 borders, “referring to the UN Charter principle of respect for the territorial integrity of states and a number of resolutions”.<\/p>\n

As an example of inadequate interpretation of the UN Charter, Lavrov mentioned the situation in Kosovo.<\/p>\n

“When Western countries declared Kosovo independent in 2008, no one argued about it, and the UN International Court of Justice said in its conclusion that, if a part of the country unilaterally decides on its independence, consent of the central authorities is not required at all”, emphasized Lavrov.<\/p>\n

Lavrov said that the UN Charter, before mentioning territorial integrity, contains the recognition of the right of nations to self-determination, which served as the basis for the biggest process in recent history \u2013 the process of decolonization.<\/p>\n
