The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has talked with the United States ambassador in Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, about the changes in the American administration, after Donald Trump won the presidential elections in the USA last week.<\/p>\n
Osmani’s office announced that this was a regular meeting between the president and the US ambassador, the first between them since Trump won the election on November 5.<\/p>\n
“President Osmani expressed gratitude for the historic bipartisan support and cooperation with the United States, as well as underlined the joint commitment to maintaining peace and stability,” the announcement states.<\/p>\n
Osmani said in the meeting that Kosovo’s relations with the USA are “existential” and that he hopes that even with the new administration of President-elect Trump, the “excellent” cooperation will continue and that it will continue to have Kosovo in mind.<\/p>\n
Republican Trump’s victory in the November 5 presidential elections in the USA has brought uncertainty to Kosovo as well.<\/p>\n
Political experts in Kosovo and abroad have expressed different views on the effects that this administration will have on Kosovo.<\/p>\n
Afrim Hoti, professor of Law and International Relations at the University of Pristina, told Radio Free Europe last week that he is optimistic that Trump brings a “positive opportunity for Kosovo and the region.”<\/p>\n
But, for Toby Vogel, from the Council for Democratization Policies in Berlin, “not even one positive thing” for the Balkans can come from Trump’s return to the White House.<\/p>\n
