The State Police issued a statement to the media regarding an operation in Tirana and Shkodra against economic crime.<\/p>\n
The director of cybercrime in the State Police, Ervina Gjana, stated that a total of 20 arrest warrants have been issued by the Court of Tirana, while 17 people have been arrested so far, who exchanged virtual currencies without a license.<\/p>\n
About 750 thousand euros were seized from this police action.<\/p>\n
Police Notification<\/em><\/p>\n Today, the coded police operation “USDT-1” took place. The operation, the first in our country, and very important at the regional level, had the objective of documenting with legal evidence and cracking down on the illegal exchange of money in virtual currencies and vice versa.<\/p>\n Due to the great importance of cracking down on this criminal activity, starting from its global scope, the multinationality of the perpetrators, the difficulty of proving the authorship and the activity itself, During the investigation period, it was possible to document with convincing evidence this criminal activity that was carried out individually, using social networks as means of communication, as well as through several economic subjects, in Tirana and Shkodra. Following the investigative-procedural actions, in cooperation with the Directorate of the Special Operational Force and the Local Directorate of the Tirana Police, security measures, determined by the Court of Tirana, have been executed for 18 citizens.<\/p>\n Specifically:<\/p>\n – the security measure “Arrest in prison” was executed for the citizens: G. S., R. B., A. K., L. L., M. S., A. R., A. A., S. Gj., A. Gj., D. D., T. A., F. S., P. V., D. V., E. S. , J. L. and A. B., accused of the criminal offenses “Practicing without a license of financial activities” and “Concealment of income”.<\/p>\n – the security measure “Compulsion to appear before the judicial police” has been executed for the citizen V. L., as accused of the criminal offense “Criminal failure”.<\/p>\n Also, 2 citizens implicated in this criminal activity, with citizenship of North Macedonia, have been identified and declared wanted.<\/p>\n As a result of the investigations, it has been proven that the 18 arrested citizens, individually or in the capacity of administrators of economic entities in Tirana and Shkodra, exchanged virtual currencies for cash and vice versa, without being equipped with the necessary license to carry out this activity. From the checks carried out in 32 premises, 13 computer devices, 27 mobile phones and about 750,000 euros, which were suspected of serving this illegal activity, were seized as material evidence.<\/p>\n In coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana, investigations are continuing to bring to criminal responsibility all the citizens involved in this criminal activity, who have used cryptocurrencies as payment mechanisms through criminal groups.<\/p>\n The Directorate for Cybercrime Investigations thanks the citizens and the media for the occasional reports of crimes in this area.
