Kosovo officials have condemned as a criminal act an attack on the building of the Municipality of Zve\u00e7an in the north of Kosovo, which was the second against the country’s institutions in this municipality inhabited by a majority of Serbs within two days.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police for the North, Veton Elshani, told Radio Free Europe that the municipal building was attacked with an explosive device, which is suspected to be an “M-75 hand grenade”.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that these attacks “are criminal and terrorist acts aimed at instilling fear”, when asked about the attack on Friday during an event in Podujev\u00eb.<\/p>\n
However, he insisted that the security situation in the tense north of Kosovo “has never been better and safer than now”.<\/p>\n
“It is not that there are no criminals, but the criminal structures have either fled to Serbia, or are in prison in Kosovo, or are sheltering somewhere outside our region. We don’t have internal sources of potential instability or security threats, which we don’t manage, and we don’t succeed in confronting them,” said Kurti.<\/p>\n
This is the second attack on institutions in Zve\u00e7an, a municipality inhabited by a majority of Serbs, in the last two days, after the hand grenade attack on a police station.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that there were no injuries from this explosion and that the police have not yet identified any suspects for carrying out the attack.<\/p>\n
The attack caused damage to the Municipality building and four vehicles parked nearby, while the police have already started investigations, according to Elshan.<\/p>\n
In a post on Facebook, Kosovo’s Interior Minister, Xhelal Sve\u00e7la, blamed Serbia for, as he said, “directing” criminal gangs to carry out attacks on institutions in the north in recent days.<\/p>\n
“At a time when they are being dismantled more and more, they desperately want to show that they are still here and strong. But, we are more determined than ever until the complete elimination of every criminal and terrorist particle in our country”, Sve\u00e7la wrote.<\/p>\n
