The former Minister of Justice of Kosovo, Hajredin Ku\u00e7i appeared in the first session of the Special Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the indictment, saying that his work was identified in the function of building justice, respecting court decisions and trust in justice, and not in disobedience of court orders, what the indictment says.<\/p>\n
“I am completely innocent. Today is a dark moment for me as a man of justice who has a profession and a mission all his life. I have been identified with justice as a legal profession for over 30 years, as former chairman of the constitutional commission of Kosovo that the constitution is still in force, as deputy prime minister for order and law for 3 terms and minister of justice for two terms, as members of the defense team of the chairman Kadri Veseli. I see this indictment as an attack on my human and professional dignity, but also on my reputation. Justice as a profession and mission will continue even today in another position, but still in function of it and those values \u200b\u200bthat I have identified. I am sorry for the inconvenience that this indictment has caused to my family, thousands of students and colleagues, friends and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. I tell them even today, I am the same person I was before December 6, 2024, I will not let anyone down, not even you or justice. Let me be clear, I have not committed any crime, I am innocent and I have full confidence that I will be acquitted,” he said.<\/p>\n
Ku\u00e7i also spoke about the commitments and work he had with Hashim Tha\u00e7i.<\/p>\n
“I am in the indictment with President Hashim Tha\u00e7i. Hashim is my friend, we have known each other for many years and we have worked together for a long time. During the entire work together, we worked and worked on the principle of justice, respect for it and we believed in justice. As a lawyer, I have used the slogan “Rule of law by law”, even today I believe that this court is doing it and this court will do it. My work has been identified as a function of building justice, respecting court decisions, trusting in justice and not disobeying court orders, as the indictment says. Even when I was in the defense team, even when I had the opportunity through the law and protocol to meet with the witnesses, I never used this right, which can be proven. I did not want to create the perception of any possible misunderstanding. As you said at the beginning, justice for me is a profession and a mission that will continue even today and in the future. Belief in God and in justice did not waver even when I am personally challenged, even when it seems that they are on the other side, because I am always on their side with conviction”, said Ku\u00e7i.<\/p>\n
