Tirana is following with concern the latest political movements in North Macedonia, which seeks to repeal the law on the use of the Albanian language. The message was conveyed to the head of DUI, Ali Ahmeti, by the mayor, Erion Veliaj.<\/p>\n
The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, hosted the head of the Party of the Democratic Union for Integration, Ali Ahmeti, in a meeting. Veliaj praised Ahmeti for the role he has played in protecting the identity of Albanians, and expressed concern about the attack on the Albanian language in North Macedonia.<\/p>\n
“…We are very concerned when there are initiatives to deny already acquired rights, to deny rights, such as the Albanian language, that have made North Macedonia better, more western, more European. We are following with concern all the decision-making these days”, said Veliaj.<\/p>\n
Ahmeti expressed his commitment to preserving the Ohrid agreement and the rights of Albanians, and thanked Veliaj for supporting peace in the region.<\/p>\n
“Any change or violation of the Ohrid agreement, the law of the Albanian language, which is one of the main pillars of the peace agreement for Ohrid, means that it damages inter-ethnic relations”, said Ahmeti.<\/p>\n
As a sign of gratitude and appreciation, Mayor Veliaj honored Ahmeti with the “Clock Tower”.<\/p>\n
