The outgoing United States ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, said that Washington wants to see Kosovo succeed and advance, adding that it remains committed to the partnership with Pristina.<\/p>\n
He made this statement after the farewell meeting he held with the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, with which they placed wreaths near the statue of the former president of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, writes REL.<\/p>\n
“I want to thank the people of Kosovo. It has been my dream job to serve as the American ambassador for these three years and to have the opportunity to work with the people of Kosovo and help the country to progress. The US is committed to our partnership. We want to see Kosovo succeed, advance”, said Hovenier.<\/p>\n
Hovenier has served as the US ambassador to Kosovo for the past three years in Kosovo.<\/p>\n
President Osmani thanked Hovenier for the cooperation in these three years and the work, as she said, “in protecting the foundations of this existential alliance for our people”.<\/p>\n
She mentioned that Hovenieri has been committed to the Kosovo issue for a quarter of a century, as she said that he was part of President Marti Ahtisaari’s team, which drew up the plan that led to Kosovo’s independence.<\/p>\n
Hovenier said that if you compare Kosovo from the 90s to today, “there is no doubt” that the country has made progress.<\/p>\n
“I am leaving as a greater friend of Kosovo than when I arrived”, he concluded.<\/p>\n
