The system for energy storage through batteries will stabilize the country’s electric power system and reduce the cost of energy imports.<\/p>\n
This is what the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said at the conference organized by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCA Kosova), regarding the pre-qualification procedures for the Design and Construction of Large Systems for Energy Storage through Batteries.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Kurti said that with this energy storage system, the security and reliability of energy supply will increase.<\/p>\n
He added that 125 megawatts of this system will operate under the Energy Corporation and another 45 megawatts under KOSTT.<\/p>\n
“It is good to start the year with such a success for the energy sector. For decades, Kosovo has faced difficulties, we have not only needed investments, but a vision that brings results that cannot be reversed. We have set ourselves ambitious goals and set a vision that is both solid and forward-looking.
\nWe are clear that building new capacities is not enough, we are making sure that we build the right infrastructure to support the new capacities. We are officially opening the pre-qualification process for the construction of energy storage systems with batteries which we will place in Ferizaj and Istog. 125 megawatts of this system will operate under the Energy Corporation and another 45 megawatts under KOST that will be used for grid balancing… They will have an immediate and direct impact. First, they will stabilize the country’s electric power system and reduce the cost of energy imports, secondly, they will increase the security and reliability of energy supply for both households and businesses, and thirdly, we will pave the way for further integration of energy from renewable sources such as wind, water and sun”, said Kurti.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli said that the Compact program was the right decision for the energy system in Kosovo.<\/p>\n
She said that the implementation of this project will save Kosovo’s electricity system more than 15 million euros per year.<\/p>\n
“This event is also of great importance since the compact program was the first major decision as a minister and as a government in the energy sector. I am convinced as never before that the decision was the right one and there is nothing better that we can do for our electric power system and for our energy transition than to build these batteries… The energy reserves that will be built through this program will save Kosovo’s electricity system an amount of more than 15 million euros per year,” she said.<\/p>\n
Resident Local Director of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Rinor Gjonbalaj said that the energy storage system will be the first in the region.<\/p>\n
According to him, stability in energy will be provided through batteries.<\/p>\n
“This energy storage system will be the first in the region that will enable Kosovo to integrate renewable energy into the grid, stabilize energy supply and reduce import dependence. This is not only about the infrastructure but about the supporting change that will provide more stable energy in Kosovo”, he said.<\/p>\n
