President Vjosa Osmani stated that Kosovo has full support from the new U.S. administration led by Donald Trump. Addressing her absence at the inauguration ceremony of the U.S. president, Osmani explained that she acted similarly to many world leaders who, despite receiving invitations, authorized lower-level representation.<\/p>\n
However, she noted that she had the opportunity to speak earlier with the new U.S. president during the Paris Summit, where, according to her, they held a substantive discussion about Kosovo.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Osmani mentioned that she has had numerous meetings with Republican representatives for over a year. Based on these interactions, she expressed confidence that Kosovo would receive strong support during the Trump administration.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had the opportunity to personally congratulate President Trump during my visit to Paris. Not only to congratulate him, but also to have a meaningful conversation with him about the security situation in Kosovo and our region, as well as the threats facing this area. I expressed my full confidence in his leadership to maintain peace and security in Kosovo and beyond. I am extremely pleased and optimistic following that discussion with the president. At the same time, for over a year, I have held numerous meetings with representatives of the Republican Party, many of whom I had previous contacts with or established connections with for the first time. Based on all these contacts, I can confidently say that Kosovo has strong support from this administration and the Republican Party in general,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Osmani explained in detail why she did not attend Trump\u2019s inauguration ceremony.<\/p>\n
She added that a delegation from her office, led by Kosovo\u2019s ambassador to the U.S., Ilir Dugolli, represented Kosovo at the inauguration of the American president.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor this ceremony, I was invited by members of Congress and the Senate. Since the overwhelming majority of countries, in terms of state leaders specifically, were represented by their ambassadors, we followed the same protocol model. I sent a presidential delegation led by my chief of staff and my foreign policy advisor, accompanied by Ambassador Ilir Dugolli, who participated in all inaugural activities, many of which are still ongoing. These include meetings conducted by the team I delegated. Once their meetings and visits conclude, we will issue a statement to inform the public about all these activities,\u201d declared Osmani.<\/p>\n
On another note, Osmani was asked about political declarations made during the election campaign, but she declined to comment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not here today to discuss campaign issues. In fact, as the presidency, we never engage in campaign-related matters,\u201d emphasized Osmani.<\/p>\n
These remarks were made following a commemorative ceremony marking the 19th anniversary of the death of former President Ibrahim Rugova.<\/p>\n
Donald Trump officially assumed office as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, January 20.<\/p>\n
