Public debt in 2024 has decreased to 54.7% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This decline is attributed to increased revenues, which last year exceeded the Ministry of Finance’s forecasts. The total debt is currently estimated at 1.4 trillion lek, marking a reduction of around 6 billion lek since the end of 2023.<\/p>\n

A debt level below 55% indicates that this is the lowest level since 2009, and according to the stock data, the most significant drop comes from the repayment of external debt. In the previous year, external debt accounted for 23.1% of GDP, representing a 3% decrease compared to the prior year.<\/p>\n

Debt servicing, paid by the Albanian government, has also significantly decreased, reaching 50 billion lek, down from 101 billion lek at the end of 2023. This reduction has been further supported by the depreciation of the euro against the lek.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warns that public expenditures in Albania are expected to increase by at least 7% of GDP over the next decade, with most of the funds allocated to social security, infrastructure maintenance, investments, and digitalization.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
