The mayor of Ko\u010dani, Lupco Papazov, has resigned from his position following the fire that claimed the lives of 59 young people in Ko\u010dani. However, this remains the only resignation from an official in North Macedonia, as neither the prime minister nor the interior minister sees it necessary to step down.<\/p>\n
“I am taking the entire problem upon myself. If I am the only problem in this country, I take full responsibility. If that is the wish of certain individuals. But we will not give the satisfaction to those who committed this crime until we defeat them. Then, we will go to elections to show the citizens who should take responsibility and who should go to prison,” said Hristijan Mickoski, Prime Minister of North Macedonia.<\/p>\n
“I truly do not see anyone among those who have held public office in recent years and who has the moral sense to feel responsible. I will not resign,” stated Pan\u010de To\u0161kovski, North Macedonia\u2019s Minister of Interior.<\/p>\n
Former Minister of Economy, Kreshnik Bekteshi, was summoned on Sunday for an informative conversation regarding the license issued to the nightclub. However, it remains unclear whether he will be included in the list of suspects.<\/p>\n
So far, more than 20 suspects have been identified, of whom 15 are in police custody. Some of the suspects have lost their lives, while others are being treated in hospitals, with 11 currently in pre-trial detention.<\/p>\n
As investigations continue, the people remain in mourning. Candles have been lit in Ko\u010dani, where only cries and tears fill the air.<\/p>\n
On Monday morning, some students went to the hospital to show solidarity with the injured. They brought food, which they distributed to the families waiting for news.<\/p>\n
