Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who is seeking another term in office, recently stated that his aim\u2014and that of his party, Vet\u00ebvendosje\u2014is for the leadership of the Assembly and the new government to be voted on in a single session. However, he did not clarify how he plans to achieve this.<\/p>\n
As of now, Vet\u00ebvendosje, the winner of the February 9 elections, does not have the necessary votes to form new institutions.<\/p>\n
What do analysts say about this?<\/strong> The possibility of NISMA\u2019s deputies being Kurti\u2019s only chance was also hinted at by Vet\u00ebvendosje Presidency member Albulena Haxhiu, who excluded major opposition parties from negotiations.<\/p>\n \u201cI believe that after the certification of results, the work for forming the Republic of Kosovo’s institutions will continue\u2014specifically for Kurti\u2019s third government. We will have ongoing efforts to meet with parliamentary groups, excluding the opposition\u2014so, only with our coalition partners and others whom we will approach,\u201d Haxhiu said.<\/p>\n However, Vesel Krasniqi, a member of NISMA\u2019s presidency, denied the possibility that their deputies would vote for Kurti\u2019s government if they are not formally included in the ruling coalition.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, opposition parties maintain a firm stance against collaborating with Kurti. On Monday, AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj reiterated:<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re committed to an opposition coalition, an opposition government. I don\u2019t believe anyone from the opposition will work with the ruling party. NISMA is also committed to the opposition coalition. I don\u2019t think they [Vet\u00ebvendosje] can form a government\u2014they\u2019re delaying things because they don\u2019t have the numbers. They\u2019re ten MPs short compared to last time.\u201d<\/p>\n The Central Election Commission (CEC) certified the final results on Thursday, March 27. According to the results:<\/p>\n Vet\u00ebvendosje (VV)<\/strong> secured 48 seats<\/p>\n<\/li>\n PDK<\/strong> came second with 24 seats<\/p>\n<\/li>\n LDK<\/strong> won 20 seats<\/p>\n<\/li>\n AAK-NISMA coalition<\/strong> secured 8 seats<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Given these numbers, coalition-building is necessary, as no party can govern alone.<\/p>\n It remains to be seen whether Kurti\u2019s Vet\u00ebvendosje will be able to secure enough votes. If not, the mandate may pass to the second-largest party\u2014PDK.
