The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has declined the invitation from acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti to join a governing coalition with the Vet\u00ebvendosje Movement. Instead, LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku has proposed the formation of a transitional government, which would function until the election of a new president in 2026.<\/p>\n

In a press conference on Tuesday, Abdixhiku stated that the country is in a state of crisis and that a new political process is needed to form an inclusive government, composed of unifying and consensus-based figures.<\/p>\n

“In line with this, LDK proposes launching a new political process. LDK suggests starting a consultative process with all Albanian political parties, with the aim of forming a national transitional government. A government with a defined term, lasting until the election of a new president. As the head of LDK, I am ready to meet with all Albanian political parties, to assist in this process, and I also invite Mr. Kurti and other leaders to meet whenever they see fit,\u201d said Abdixhiku.<\/p>\n

He revealed that he has contacted all Albanian political party leaders regarding this initiative and that AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj has already accepted the proposal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have informed all leaders of the Albanian political parties, and it will be up to each party individually to respond. Mr. Haradinaj just messaged me and accepted the idea,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

Abdixhiku also expressed readiness for early elections if all parties agree.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in a crisis\u2014let\u2019s acknowledge that. The first party [Vet\u00ebvendosje] does not have a solution for the crisis, only a blocking tendency. We are offering and seeking a way toward resolution. Elections are not off the table; if all are ready, we can go to elections,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Vet\u00ebvendosje leader Albin Kurti had sent a letter to LDK chairman Lumir Abdixhiku expressing interest in a governing coalition.<\/p>\n

In the letter, Kurti acknowledged that in addition to needing 61 votes to form a government, the same majority is also required to elect the Speaker of the Assembly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs chairman of Vet\u00ebvendosje and acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, I am interested and willing to enter into a political agreement with LDK. Of course, we have differences in political beliefs and governance policies, but coalitions are built precisely between those who differ, placing the rights and needs of the state and its citizens as the top priority,\u201d Kurti wrote.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
