At least 10 people, including the perpetrator, were killed in a school shooting in Graz, one of Austria\u2019s largest cities. Among the victims was 15-year-old Lea Bajrami, a student of Kosovar origin.<\/p>\n
According to media reports, her family confirmed the tragic news by sharing her photo and a statement:<\/p>\n
\u201cWith broken hearts and deep sorrow, we inform our family and friends that our niece, Lea Ilir Bajrami, lost her life tragically in the attack that occurred in Graz, Austria.\u201d<\/p>\n
President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, called the attack horrifying and stressed that schools must not become places of violence and terror.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones, and we stand with the people of Austria during this painful time. We pray for the full recovery of the injured and for healing in the days ahead,\u201d she wrote on the platform X.<\/p>\n
Kosovar journalist Vehbi Haliti, based in Graz, confirmed the victim’s identity in a statement for FRONTAL on T7.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, it\u2019s true. She is the daughter of one of our community activists here in Graz and a member of the leadership of the Humanitarian Union. This is one of the worst intentional tragedies in Austria since World War II.\u201d<\/p>\n
The tragic event occurred at Dreierschutzengasse High School. Austrian media have published the names of some of the victims, including five students: Emma Leitner, Jakob Weiss, Sophie Gruber, Lukas Thalberg, and Nina Hartwig.<\/p>\n
Austria’s Interior Minister, Gerhard Karner, said the shooter was a former student who had dropped out of the school.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything else remains speculation,\u201d he told Sky News.<\/p>\n
Foreign media report that the attacker, who committed suicide after the rampage, was a 21-year-old from the Graz area. Officials confirmed that 12 other people were injured, and investigations into the motive are ongoing.<\/p>\n
Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker has declared a three-day national mourning period starting tomorrow, including a minute of silence at 10:00 AM in honor of the massacre victims.<\/p>\n
