Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, declared today that the ongoing institutional deadlock in the country is being prolonged due to the behavior of the opposition, which, according to him, is contributing to the extension of the current government’s mandate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have entered the second quarter of the fifth year of a full mandate. Every democratic opposition tries to shorten the government\u2019s term\u2014except for Kosovo\u2019s opposition, which is extending the term of the current government,\u201d Kurti stated during a media appearance on June 24, 2025, after laying the foundation stone for the new annex of the Ministry of Health\u2019s pharmaceutical depot.<\/p>\n

He dismissed speculation about a secret agreement between the government and the opposition, stressing that such claims are baseless:
\u201cSome may think we have an agreement with the opposition to stay in power longer, but I assure you that is not true,\u201d Kurti said.<\/p>\n

According to him, the opposition\u2019s behavior lacks rational explanation and is keeping the country in a state of paralysis.<\/p>\n

Kurti emphasized that it is essential for all parliamentary parties to participate in the vote to constitute the Assembly and form its Presidency, which would then pave the way for the establishment of a new government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sooner we constitute the Assembly, the sooner we will get to a new government. We have fewer powers as a caretaker government, but still a lot of work,\u201d he stressed, referring to Article 31 of the Law on Government.<\/p>\n

This Wednesday will mark the 37th attempt to elect the Speaker of the Assembly. Vet\u00ebvendosje (LVV) has proposed Albulena Haxhiu for the position, but has failed to secure more than 57 votes, with the opposition refusing to support her candidacy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
