Kozeta Miliku, an Albanian scientist, has been recognized by the prestigious The Globe and Mail as one of the five most promising scientists in Canada.<\/p>\n
In an exclusive interview with journalist Xhensil Shk\u00ebmbi, the Kor\u00e7a-born researcher shared her thoughts on receiving this recognition in Canada, noting that her findings on foods linked to obesity in children up to age 3 have sparked nationwide discussion.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a major achievement, recognition for the work I\u2019ve done \u2014 I feel proud. The field I study is the origin of diseases, mainly obesity and asthma. Two of my publications were cited in the article, including one on ultra-processed foods commonly found in supermarkets, which have negative health effects,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Miliku\u2019s life has been split between Kor\u00e7a and Tirana, where she completed her medical studies. Her high academic performance earned her a scholarship from the European Committee in the Netherlands. Her success continued when, in her final year, she was offered a job in Canada, working at the country\u2019s central offices.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve thought about returning to Albania \u2014 it has crossed my mind. Not necessarily for recognition, but because all of my loved ones are there,\u201d Kozeta said.<\/p>\n
Now the mother of a three-year-old daughter, Miliku says motherhood may be an additional reason to consider raising her child closer to family. However, she also acknowledges that Canada has fulfilled her \u2014 in every aspect.<\/p>\n
