A group of renowned archaeologists and university professors from the University of Salzburg visited the Kamenica Tumulus, one of the most well-known archaeological sites in Albania\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
Professors Rubeer Bretwiser and Martin Chiefberger stated that Albania and the Kor\u00e7a region have many places worth visiting, but they need more investment in research and discovery. Both emphasized that the responsibility does not lie solely with the Albanian government, but also with EU countries, which should contribute more to the development of the Balkan region.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe Kamenica Tumulus is one of the most interesting places I\u2019ve seen. One of the best-preserved sites. The problem is that institutions here need to pay more attention to archaeology, to invest more in cultural heritage sites. On the other hand, we as EU countries must also focus more on the Balkans,\u201d<\/span> said Rubeer Bretwiser, Archaeologist.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe were in Shkod\u00ebr, Kruja, and today we are in Kor\u00e7a. Next, we\u2019ll head to Butrint. We are a group of archaeologists and professors from a well-known university, and we want to learn more about your history. One thing I would highlight is the attention these archaeological sites need from institutions. There must be more economic investment, and we will also write a report for Austria to raise awareness and encourage more funding toward your country,\u201d<\/span> said Martin Chiefberger, Archaeologist.<\/span><\/p>\n Albanian archaeologist Olsi Lafe echoed the same concerns, adding that as the number of visitors to these sites increases, so does the need for investment, including through European grants.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThese aren\u2019t just casual visitors \u2014 they are professionals in the field of antiquity who come to Albania with genuine interest in understanding more, both visually and in content, like at the Kamenica Tumulus. Are enough efforts being made? In some cases, yes. But should more be done? Absolutely. Investments in culture require passion and selflessness. They may not yield economic returns directly, but they bring value in other ways,\u201d<\/span> said Olsi Lafe.<\/span><\/p>\n The Kamenica Tumulus is one of the largest and most prominent burial mounds discovered in Albania, containing graves, skeletal remains, and archaeological objects such as pottery, weapons, jewelry made of bronze, iron, silver, gold, amber, and bone.
