{"id":80574,"date":"2025-10-01T17:32:39","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T15:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=80574"},"modified":"2025-10-01T19:09:32","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T17:09:32","slug":"constitutional-court-on-president-begajs-decree-for-tirana-no-comment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/constitutional-court-on-president-begajs-decree-for-tirana-no-comment\/","title":{"rendered":"Constitutional Court on President Begaj\u2019s Decree for Tirana: \u201cNo Comment\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Constitutional Court of Albania<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> has declined to comment on President <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Bajram Begaj\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> decision to decree <\/span><span class=\"s1\">November 9<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> as the date for early local elections in the Municipality of Tirana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Asked by <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Euronews Albania<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> journalist <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Enkelejda Mema<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> about the constitutionality of the decree \u2014 given that former Tirana mayor <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Erion Veliaj\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> legal team has filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court, and Article 115 of the Constitution stipulates that any decision is suspended pending review \u2014 the Court responded briefly:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">\u201cWe have no comment on the matter.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Meanwhile, the Presidency issued a press release clarifying the motivation behind the decree, stressing that Veliaj\u2019s dismissal case does not fall under the Constitutional Court\u2019s jurisdiction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">According to President Begaj, appeals against dismissal for <\/span><span class=\"s1\">failure to appear at work<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> \u2014 as in Veliaj\u2019s case \u2014 must be handled by the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Administrative Court<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, not the Constitutional Court.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Constitutional Court of Albania has declined to comment on President Bajram Begaj\u2019s decision to decree November 9 as the date for early local elections in the Municipality of Tirana.
