The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, on Tuesday nominated the candidate proposed by the Vet\u00ebvendosje Movement, Glauk Konjufca, as the country\u2019s new prime minister.<\/p>\n
Osmani stated that her decision is in accordance with three rulings of the Constitutional Court.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn line with the Constitution and all rulings of the Constitutional Court, I have nominated Mr. Glauk Konjufca as another candidate for prime minister, as clearly required and defined by Article 95, paragraph 4, as well as by the practice of the Constitutional Court itself,\u201d said Osmani.<\/p>\n
She emphasized that the Constitution of Kosovo obliges the president to appoint a second nominee if the first attempt to form a government fails.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Constitution does not say \u2018may appoint,\u2019 it says \u2018appoints another candidate\u2019 if the first one fails. The language used in the Constitution is obligatory, meaning it requires the president to appoint a second nominee,\u201d Osmani explained.<\/p>\n
Osmani added that after her meeting with Vet\u00ebvendosje and Glauk Konjufca, they convinced her that they have full confidence they can secure the necessary votes.<\/p>\n
\u201cVet\u00ebvendosje and Glauk Konjufca, with whom I just concluded a meeting, have full confidence that they can reach the required number of votes. It is their task to secure those votes, while my duty is to be convinced that they have a realistic chance \u2014 and they have convinced me, as required by the Constitutional Court\u2019s ruling. If there had been no proposal at all, the situation would have been completely different,\u201d Osmani added.<\/p>\n
Following his nomination by the president, Konjufca now has 15 days to present his new cabinet before the Assembly of Kosovo, which must receive at least 61 votes in favor for approval.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
