Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the \u201cSmart City Albania\u201d event this Friday, a project that for the installation of over 5,000 smart cameras in 20 cities across Albania\u2014from Tirana to Saranda, from Shkodra to Gjirokast\u00ebr\u2014as well as 3,000 body cameras to be worn by State Police officers.<\/p>\n
During his speech, Rama spoke about the installation of this security system through intelligent cameras, which he said will place Albania at the highest level of technology, introducing advanced standards for monitoring city streets, schools, and other public spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe eye of \u2018Smart City\u2019 is an eye that sees everywhere at the same time and gathers all the necessary information to signal a problem.<\/span><\/p>\n There is no need to rely on police checkpoints to collect unpaid vehicle taxes. All this information arrives in real time, and then the police intervene to enforce the law based on this data.<\/span><\/p>\n There is no need for someone to film a police officer who fails to meet even the basic standards of communication expected from a first-grade student, because in real time the body camera of a police officer debating with a citizen transmits the situation to the operations room.<\/span><\/p>\n It is impossible for the camera to be turned off at will, because a deactivated camera is immediately signaled to the control center.<\/span><\/p>\n Security in schools changes radically. Since this system was introduced in schools, not only have crimes of all kinds dropped dramatically, but absenteeism has also decreased significantly, as have cheating and the transformation of classrooms into play areas. This is because the entire system works for teachers, parents, schools, and the Ministry of Education, and when the police need to conduct a verification, everything is recorded.<\/span><\/p>\n When someone approaches a school entrance or when unwanted individuals attempt to distribute narcotics, the police see it in real time. Street-level criminal elements find it impossible to go wherever they want and do whatever they want, because they are under police surveillance at all times.
