The Central Election Commission (CEC) is holding a public session this Monday, with the agenda including the review of a request to issue signature sheets for the collection of signatures in order to hold a referendum on gender equality.<\/p>\n

The CEC is examining the referendum request, which aims to allow Albanian citizens to directly express their will on issues of particular importance, through the following questions:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Do you want the law to recognize only two genders: male (man) and female (woman)?<\/li>\n
  2. Do you want the law to recognize marriage only between a man and a woman?<\/li>\n
  3. Do you want the law to recognize a child\u2019s right to be raised by a mother and a father?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The request was submitted to the CEC on December 22 of last year, when a group of initiators from the \u201cPro Family\u201d coalition asked to be provided with signature sheets in order to collect signatures for holding a popular referendum, through which they seek the repeal of the gender equality law.<\/p>\n

    The gender equality law was approved on November 6, 2025, with 77 votes from the ruling Socialist majority, while the opposition opposed it and did not take part in the vote.<\/p>\n

    The CEC is expected to approve the issuance of the standard signature sheet for the initiating group, which will then approach citizens to collect 50,000 signatures, which, according to the law, must belong to registered voters.<\/p>\n

    The initiating group has 60 days to collect the signatures and then submit them to the CEC, after which the procedure \u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0443\u0441\u043c\u0430\u0442\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0435\u0442 a verification process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
