The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a press conference this Thursday, where he spoke about his visit to Strasbourg and his meetings with officials of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Berisha used strong language against the Rama government, accusing it of building a narco-state, widespread corruption, and involvement in drug trafficking.<\/p>\n
According to Berisha, during his stay in Strasbourg, he and representatives of the Albanian opposition presented facts and documents regarding what he described as an alarming situation in Albania.<\/p>\n
\u201cI returned last night after a stay as a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and after intensive activity in the temple of European democracy. The days spent in Strasbourg were used to strongly condemn and to present facts and documents about the dramatic situation in Albania\u2019s narco-state, about the authoritarian dictatorship in the country,\u201d Berisha said.<\/p>\n
He stated that during plenary sessions and meetings with the Parliamentary Group of the European People\u2019s Party, concerns were raised about what he described as a danger to Europe.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the parliamentary group of the European People\u2019s Party and in the plenary sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly, we presented the great danger that the criminal organization known as the Albanian government, led by Edi Rama, poses not only to Albanians but to all of Europe,\u201d Berisha said.<\/p>\n
According to him, Prime Minister Rama is linked to powerful drug cartels.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe informed and warned that Edi Rama represents a major threat to their countries, as he is today the padrino of the most powerful drug cartels in Europe, which export marijuana, are the main shareholders in the cocaine and heroin markets, and transport drugs from Latin America to the ports of the European continent, turning Albania\u2019s ports into free ports,\u201d Berisha declared.<\/p>\n
Speaking about political developments in the country, Berisha said that opposition allies in Strasbourg are expecting a second protest and that citizens, according to him, will speak very soon.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe echo of the protest was powerful. Our friends in Strasbourg are waiting for the second protest, with the same insistence expected from all Albanian opposition supporters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He warned of new protests and a strong political confrontation.<\/p>\n
\u201cCitizens will speak very soon, and we will inform about the most powerful protest that Tirana and Albania have ever known in the coming days. The opposition is on its feet, determined to confront this criminal, kleptocratic, narco-regime tooth and nail. The only hope is the opposition, and it will not disappoint. The Democratic Party is entirely in protest now.
