The Minister of Interior, Albana Ko\u00e7iu, reported this Thursday to the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party of Albania during a meeting held at the Palace of Brigades, in the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama. In her remarks, Ko\u00e7iu emphasized the fight against illegality and the targeting of assets derived from criminal activity. According to the minister, interinstitutional cooperation has been essential in achieving these concrete results.<\/p>\n
Another key focus of her report was the use of seized assets to support communities in need. Ko\u00e7iu stressed that justice should not be seen only as punishment, but also as support for citizens.<\/p>\n
The minister stated:<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to continue with the cycle of legality reforms, which cannot be complete unless we begin by striking at the heart of illegality \u2014 the money and assets of crime. One year ago, through the joint work of the State Police and law enforcement institutions, we seized and confiscated a value that was previously unimaginable. A total of \u20ac65 million in assets and properties have been seized and confiscated. On one hand, it is positive that we have achieved such a collection thanks to our real and digital capacities, but on the other hand, it is important to emphasize how essential interinstitutional cooperation is.<\/p>\n
One thing we should highlight is the work and effort we are undertaking to transform these assets into concrete support for communities in need. We have established a mechanism that provides a clear legal framework and mobilizes all these assets in service of vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n
Specifically, in 2025, we seized a total of 726 properties. Of these, 64 properties were confiscated, contributing to the support of 15 social projects with a direct impact on vulnerable communities. In addition, around 20 public institutions have benefited from these assets, using them to improve and further organize their work.<\/p>\n
We are also working on the legal framework to transfer confiscated and seized properties for the benefit of the families of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, ensuring continued support for them. Because we believe that justice is not only about punishing criminals, but also about solidarity with those who sacrifice to protect the law and the lives of citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
