The Special Prosecutor\u2019s Offices of Kosovo and Albania have expanded their cooperation by signing an agreement on Monday to establish joint investigative teams, Kosovo\u2019s Special Prosecution Office announced.<\/p>\n
The agreement was signed during a joint working meeting in Pristina between Kosovo\u2019s Special Prosecution Office and Albania\u2019s Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Structure, known as SPAK.<\/p>\n
The Chief Prosecutor of Kosovo\u2019s Special Prosecution Office, Blerim Isufaj, and the head of SPAK, Klodjan Braho, expressed their readiness to engage in joint efforts to advance inter-institutional coordination, the statement said.<\/p>\n
The Albanian delegation was also received today by the acting State Chief Prosecutor of Kosovo, Agron \u00c7alaj.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring this meeting, the joint institutional commitment to strengthening the rule of law in both states was reaffirmed, and discussions were held on increasing the level of cooperation, coordination, and efficiency in the fight against crime in both countries,\u201d the Kosovo prosecution said.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the parties agreed that strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two prosecution offices in the field of criminal justice is essential for addressing shared challenges and handling issues of mutual interest.<\/p>\n
Kosovar and Albanian authorities have carried out joint operations against organized crime in the past.<\/p>\n
They dismantled a weapons trafficking group operating in both countries during an operation in 2024, which was also supported by Eurojust and Europol.<\/p>\n
The suspects were responsible for supplying, transporting, and selling weapons and explosive materials, creating a complex import and export route toward the European Union.<\/p>\n
During that joint operation in 2024, 14 suspects were arrested in Albania and Kosovo.<\/p>\n
