The main political parties in Kosovo have yet to take concrete steps toward reaching an agreement on electing a new president, even as the deadline set by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo has already begun to run.<\/p>\n
Last week, the Constitutional Court gave lawmakers 34 days to elect the head of state, warning that otherwise the country will head to early elections within 45 days.<\/p>\n
The mandate of the current president, Vjosa Osmani, ends on April 4, while the final deadline for electing her successor has been set for April 28. However, one week after the court\u2019s decision, no public efforts toward reaching political consensus have been observed.<\/p>\n
Sources from the two largest opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo, stated that they have not yet received an invitation for a meeting from Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who is also the leader of Vet\u00ebvendosje.<\/p>\n
The PDK has announced that it is in the process of organizing a meeting of its Steering Council, where the party\u2019s official positions on the latest political developments are expected to be determined.<\/p>\n
