The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, after a two-hour meeting with the leader of Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, confirmed that there was nothing new from the meeting.<\/p>\n
However, Kurti remains optimistic that through meetings they can reach an agreement, though not from today\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile we no longer have the challenge of securing 61 MPs to form the government, it is an enormous challenge for one party to have 81 MPs and elect the president on its own. You know that we have tried before, and our candidate Glauk Konjufca was formalized in less than 30 hours, and likewise his opposing candidate Fatmir Mulhaxha-Kol\u00e7aku was also formalized. We made a forced selection at a time when no one was putting forward a candidate, and now we are where we are. I remain optimistic that through such meetings and discussions we can reach an agreement, but I cannot say that we have achieved it today,\u201d said Kurti.<\/p>\n
Kurti stated that when proposals and initiatives come from other parties, then the proposed name will be revealed.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow we are leaders of democratic entities and we are transparent regarding the process. We must preserve the confidentiality of the discussions. When proposals and initiatives bring concrete results, then we will be able to respond specifically about the achievements,\u201d said Kurti.<\/p>\n
He also declared that he will try to hold a meeting with the leader of Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, hoping that in that meeting there will be a change regarding the proposal that both names come from PDK.<\/p>\n
Kurti said that putting forward candidates in an absolute and blind manner makes agreement impossible.<\/p>\n
\u201cPDK has never put forward any names. It has only asked us to trust them in an absolute and blind way\u2014absolute in that both candidates should be from PDK, and blind in that they would not reveal the names in advance. This makes agreement impossible, therefore I hope that this will change through communication and meetings,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n
The issue of the president has become the main topic of discussion in Kosovo\u2019s political scene. For months, no agreement has been reached.<\/p>\n
Vet\u00ebvendosje convincingly won the early elections of December 28 and holds 57 seats in the Assembly, but these are insufficient for electing the president, as at least 80 votes are required in the 120-seat Assembly to finalize this process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
