{"id":84069,"date":"2026-04-22T16:11:38","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T14:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=84069"},"modified":"2026-04-22T16:11:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T14:11:38","slug":"archangels-monastery-in-dervican-declared-a-cultural-monument","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/archangels-monastery-in-dervican-declared-a-cultural-monument\/","title":{"rendered":"Archangels Monastery in Dervi\u00e7an Declared a \u2018Cultural Monument\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"101\" data-end=\"308\">The Archangels Monastery in <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Dervi\u00e7an<\/span><\/span>, one of the many churches and monasteries of the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Drino Valley<\/span><\/span>, has been declared a <strong data-start=\"275\" data-end=\"307\">Category I Cultural Monument<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"310\" data-end=\"581\">The approval of the project paves the way for the start of implementation works, which aim to restore the monastery\u2019s function and livability, turning it into a vibrant space for the community and cultural heritage, as well as enriching the country\u2019s tourist itineraries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"583\" data-end=\"880\">This will be the first full intervention for the restoration of the residential quarters (konaks), which are currently in a deteriorated condition. The project includes cleaning, consolidation of the masonry, and reconstruction of traditional elements such as roofs, floors, and wooden structures.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"882\" data-end=\"1203\">The Archangels Monastery is one of the most important spiritual and architectural ensembles of Dervi\u00e7an, with outstanding historical and identity values. The complex, consisting of the church and residential buildings, reflects the tradition of stone construction and the organization of monastic life over the centuries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1500\">Located on the plateau of <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Mali i Gjer\u00eb<\/span><\/span>, above the village of Dervi\u00e7an, the monastery is relatively newer compared to other complexes in this valley, but it holds significant value and demonstrates the development and typological diversity of post-Byzantine architecture.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1502\" data-end=\"1786\">As in all churches of <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Dropull<\/span><\/span>, the same construction technique has been used here\u2014layered stone masonry arranged in regular rows and bound with lime mortar. The roof is covered with stone slabs.
