Under the motto \u201cOpen Skies, Open Minds,\u201d the 13th edition of the DEA Open Air International Film Festivalreturns to Tirana.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s festival, which begins on Monday afternoon and runs through June 5, features 40 films from 25 countries.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis festival seeks to contribute to a country that lacks a proper cinema network. Our goal is not only to present films but also to bring audiences back to the cinema. Cinema makes people think and evokes emotions,\u201d said Edmond Topi.<\/p>\n
Competing for the DEA Awards are seven feature films in the main competition category, 15 short films, and 18 student films.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are presenting filmmakers who focus on universal themes as well as on the challenges humanity has faced and continues to face. We have a broad geographical representation, ranging from China and Kyrgyzstan to Europe and the United States,\u201d emphasized Mirela Oktrova.<\/p>\n
One notable aspect of this year\u2019s program is the absence of Albanian film productions. Topi offered an explanation for this situation:<\/p>\n
\u201cI do not believe it is appropriate to beg a producer or director to submit their film to a festival. Everyone wants to take their films abroad. I am sorry to say it, but we have received no submissions from Albanian filmmakers,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, the festival includes a special program for students, who will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by conducting interviews and filming scenes in various locations across Tirana.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have reached agreements with two schools that will produce films during these four days. All students who wish can attend meetings with the directors and producers who will be participating in the festival,\u201d Topi added.<\/p>\n
The 13th edition of DEA Open Air aims not only to showcase films in competition but also to create an international platform for dialogue and collaboration among filmmakers, students, critics, researchers, and the wider public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
