Montenegro\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed as unfounded allegations that Podgorica is conducting a hybrid war against Serbia, stating that such claims reflect the unwillingness of certain political structures in Belgrade to accept Montenegro as a sovereign state.<\/p>\n
The reaction came after Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107<\/span><\/span> claimed that Montenegro and its media outlets were participating in hybrid actions against Serbia.<\/p>\n In a statement published on X, Montenegro\u2019s Foreign Ministry said that repeated statements from the neighboring country demonstrate the reluctance of some political actors to recognize Montenegro as a sovereign and equal state, rather than as a territory that should return to what it described as \u201cimagined political centers.\u201d<\/p>\n The ministry added that such statements tend to intensify whenever Montenegro makes progress toward membership in the European Union<\/span><\/span> or when elections are approaching.<\/p>\n “We leave it to the public to judge whether such statements should be viewed as the beginning of new disinformation campaigns and political pressure, or as attempts to divert attention from problems that have nothing to do with Montenegro,”<\/em> the statement said.<\/p>\n Montenegro\u2019s Foreign Ministry also emphasized that the country\u2019s decision to restore its independence is final, democratic, and internationally verified through a referendum. It added that Montenegro seeks the best possible relations with all its neighbors, including Serbia.<\/p>\n However, the ministry stressed that such relations can only be built on mutual respect and acceptance of reality, rejecting any suggestion that Montenegro had taken territory from anyone.<\/p>\n Serbia\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded by saying that Montenegro\u2019s reaction constitutes \u201cconfirmation of the hybrid nature of the actions of certain circles in Montenegro toward political life in Serbia.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The Serbian ministry argued that harsh public accusations and attempts to silence the opposing side represent inappropriate efforts to influence Serbia\u2019s internal affairs.
